Please join us in saying

‘NO to Racism’

Dear Neighbours

For weeks we were on our balconies Clapping for Carers and the experience has brought us together in the most brilliant way.

It’s been such a great feeling, to live in a community that is so positive and caring.

We’ve been working together in the face of the difficulties, trauma and uncertainty of the pandemic and one of the terrible tragedies has been the shockingly high death toll among black and minority ethnic people, especially health and care workers.

We, a group of residents from all parts of Lissenden Gardens, hope you will join us again on your balconies at 7pm on Tuesday 23 June for a special one-off Black Lives Matter event. If you don’t have a balcony or have a back flat, please come down to the street.

We want to condemn the racism and discrimination that black people have suffered for too long. We want to express our determination that things will change for the better. And we want to thank all those black and minority ethnic workers who have put their lives on the line for the rest of us during the pandemic.

Please give us your support

If you feel inspired to support the event in person, please come down and listen. The road will be marked for social distancing. If any residents feel moved to say a few words about their experiences of racism on the estate and in the neighbourhood, there will also be an opportunity to do that.

Otherwise, please support us by coming out on your balconies, as we will have a louder sound system to reach more parts of the estate. There will be a song from our Clap for Carers musicians to start the event and to finish, then we’ll taking our marching band, and BLM placards, around the streets.

Tuesday 23rd June, 7pm

Let’s make it a Lissenden evening we can all be proud of.
