Local Library Services
Libraries are not just for books
Lissenden Gardens is fortunate to still have a number of excellent libraries on the doorstep. They offer a huge amount of resources at no cost to every resident in Camden. Some are run by Camden Council, others are community libraries.
Do you need to use a computer? Do you need to print something from one? The library can help you with all of this.
Have your kids read everything you’ve bought them, all their friends' books, the back of every cereal packet? Take them to the library and let them choose their next story.
Do you find it difficult to get to the library? You can access many of the services online, including digital copies of books
Would you like to have a browse of a magazine? Check how something is rated in Which?? Catch up on the day’s newspapers? You can do all of this at your local library, or even online with your library membership.
How to join a Camden Council library:
To join a local council-run library, you can go in person and sign up with the help of a librarian, or you can sign up online, and then pop down to the library you chose to confirm and pick up your card. If you are under 18 you will need details of your guardian to add to the online form. This is how you join online:
Go to the digital library registration page on Camden' Council’s website
Read the joining conditions, and click on the button to confirm you accept them
fill in the form
submit the form and make a note of your temporary ID number
visit the library you chose in the form and pick up your library card. Don’t forget to take photo ID or two other types of ID with you.

Community Libraries
Some of the libraries in our area are community-run. Use of these libraries is still free but you will need to register with each one separately, as they are not part of Camden Council’s library group.
Most of them have been rescued by their local communities after being under threat of closure by the council, so please do take the time to join up. They each have their own personality, and all offer an eclectic range of services in addition to book-lending;
All the libraries offer a variety of events, training, interest groups, reading clubs, some have cafes, some have spaces for hire. Have a browse through their websites, and then have a browse in the actual libraries. There is so much to explore and discover on our doorstep.
